ETIHAD’S NEW ‘ECONOMY SPACE’ SEATING
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, is rolling out a new seating option called ‘Economy Space’ across its fleet of wide-body aircraft to enhance its product offering and to provide more choice on longer flights.
The redesign increases the number of extra legroom seats in Economy from 20 to 80 on this type of aircraft. Please note, however, this is not a ‘Premium Economy’ seat, more an Economy-plus affair.
From 15 December 2018 all A380 flights to London, Paris, Sydney and New York will have additional Economy Space seating, giving guests the benefit of up to a 36-inch seat pitch for a small additional fee.
The airline has advised The Travel Authority that Economy Space seating will inhabit rows 41 to 47, and additional fees are expected to be:
Abu Dhabi to Sydney v.v. AU$250.30 each way
Abu Dhabi to London Heathrow v.v. AU$208.60 each way
Abu Dhabi to Paris v.v. AU$159.90 each way
Abu Dhabi to New York v.v. AU$250.30 each way
Pricing is subject to change due to currency fluctuations and other factors.
In addition, by the end of 2019 Etihad will have also added additional Economy Space seats to 12 Boeing 777s and 21 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. This will increase the total number of extra legroom seats by 560 per cent.
“Etihad’s Economy Space seats are an interesting enhancement to an already excellent Economy Class experience. We think they will be popular with leisure travellers looking for a bit more space without the premium required to fly Etihad’s Business Class”, said The Travel Authority Group’s Managing Director, Peter Hosper.
Jamal Ahmed Al Awadhi—Etihad Airways Head of Guest Experience—stated, “While many airlines have been squeezing more seats into economy class, we continue to focus on providing our guests with exceptional products and services that meet and exceed the demands and budgets of different types of travellers.”
